CEC stands for Campus Events Commission. We are a student-run, student-funded organization, and we’re responsible for putting on free events all year long. We focus on bringing new films, great music, and cool speakers to UCLA.
WHAT EVENTS ARE YOU PUTTING ON THIS QUARTER?
Check the calendar!
WHERE ARE YOUR EVENTS?
Most of our events are at UCLA, excluding a few special premiers at the Bruin Theater. Check out all of our venues here.
I’M FORGETFUL. HOW CAN YOU REMIND ME TO COME TO THE EVENT?
1. Sign up for our weekly newsletter—we promise we won’t spam you. The newsletter goes out each Sunday and lists the upcoming events for that week.
2. Like us on Facebook. On our “events” page, you can see another list of all the events we’ve planned for the quarter.
HOW DO I GET IN TO A CEC EVENT?
Step 1. Join the Facebook event. Why? The instant we add an Eventbrite link for reservations, you’ll get a notification.
Step 2. When Eventbrite reservations are live, head over to reserve a spot.
Step 3. Try to arrive more than thirty minutes before the start of the event. If you want the best seats, you might want to try even earlier. Nearly all our events begin at 8:00. The standby line is given all unclaimed wristbands thirty minutes before the event begins.
DO I HAVE TO DO THIS FOR EVERY EVENT?
No. Certain speakers, concerts and all and free movies (non-sneaks, that is) don’t require reservations. They are first-come, first–serve. For those, all you need to do is show up with your Bruincard!
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FREE SNEAK AND A FREE FILM?
Free sneaks are when we show films before they’re released in theaters. You have to reserve on Eventbrite for them. Free films are when we show films after they’re released in theaters. They are usually in that phase between their theatrical run and their DVD release. There are no reservations for them, simply show up with your Bruincard.
I WASN’T ABLE TO MAKE A RESERVATION. CAN I STILL GET IN?
Yes, it’s possible. Oftentimes a few students who reserve spots aren’t able to make it, so we have standby lines for our bigger events. We usually start letting people from the standby line in thirty
CAN I BRING MY FRIEND WHO IS NOT A UCLA STUDENT TO A FREE MOVIE SNEAK OR SPEAKING EVENT?
No, you need a BruinCard to get in.
I WANT TO BE A PART OF THE AWESOMENESS. HOW CAN I JOIN CEC?
We hire every quarter for specific staffs. We will definitely make it known on Facebook/Twitter when applications come out.
I GOT VIP TO AN EVENT. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
VIP means you get to bypass all the lines of all the other, regular folk. You get a special wristband that lets you in before everyone else, which also means you get first dibs on the best seats in the house.
